Ubinas Vulcano RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Peru declares emergency in southern region

The Peruvian government declared an emergency in the Moquegua region, in the south of the country, due to the eruption of the Ubinas volcano.

According to the Peruvian Geophysical Institute, the volcano recorded two explosions and ash ejection on Tuesday 4 July.

For this reason, authorities have taken preventive measures for the areas of Ubinas, Yunga, Lloque, Chojata, Matalaque and San Juan de Tarucani.

In Ubinas, the district capital, ash covers rooftops and can be seen in the streets and the main square.

At 1,400 meters high, Ubinas is one of the most active volcanoes in Peru.

In 2019, one of its eruptions reached 6,500 meters above the crater and the smoke reached the Bolivian capital, La Paz.
